Refurbishment of a house on a typical “Ilha” from Oporto. The activity joined many
national and international social actors, such as house’s occupant, representatives of institutions
                working on
social housing, and know from the inside the limitations and necessities.

Some of the activities for the preparation out-site were the creation of an architectural model in a
                scale of 1:20,
a wall-floor wooden model in a scale 1:1, development of a detailed collection of special dimensions,
                build 3D
models and technical drawings to compare pre-design with post-design interventions, perform a bill
                quantity
report to check budget and needed materials. The project used a box-system to control thermal comfort
                given
the limited working machinery to support the installation of a proper insulation on the roof, and
created conditions to bring more light to the interior of the house given its narrow architectural
                characteristics.

The photographs are facing the early situation of the dwelling and how it improved. Before
                refurbishment, this
house lacked basic living conditions such as running water, insulation, and sanitary facilities. To
                achieve it the
team worked hard by intervening in almost every detail of the house, such as demolition, remaking wooden
structures, building walls, building doors/windows/furniture, etc.
