Sankofa starts from the idea of displacement as search: a body that carries memories, fears and desires, moving between the urgency of arriving and the need to look at the path already travelled. The question “What is the best way to arrive at a place?” runs through the performance as a reflection on movement, belonging and future.
The scenography centres on a revolving door manipulated by the dancers, a structure clad in mirrored acrylic panels that changed with the light, sometimes reflecting the space, sometimes revealing what lay beyond it. At the back, a translucent curtain extends this play of appearance and disappearance, allowing bodies to be seen as presence, shadows or silhouettes. The door thus became more than a scenic object: a device of passage and transformation. In crossing it, the bodies also displaced the space itself, continually creating new directions and new ways of seeing. Between reflection and transparency, between what was left behind and what is sought ahead, the scenography materialised Sankofa’s central idea: to move forward without ceasing to carry the path already travelled.
